Hola. I'm having an odd issue. After running yum update and letting this sony vio PIII laptop install the updates over night, after a restart, everything is fine until I
#startx
then the screen hang starts to scroll from top to buttom in a continuous loop! I did keep a copy of the old /etc/X11/xorg.conf but redirecting the file out put into the xorg conf did not good, nor has replaceing it with mv. Looks like the update has installed a new kernel version too, but booting with both versions has the same effect. Something must have been installed with a bug. Any thoughts. Running in console is not a problem. The problem only occurs with X is launched.

Logs are useful.

Look in: /var/log/Xorg.0.log
See if there are any (WW) warning or (EE) error.

If you want to trace the offending update, you can look in:
/var/log/yum.log

Thanks. I got it. As a bsd user, I didn't think to look for a yum log. It's fixed now thanks.

Out of curiousity and perhaps the helpful nature of the information, could you share what you found the problem to be?
