Hi !
I'm using Fedora Core 6,
commands like "who", "users" show correct username but "last" command is truncated to 8 characters.

How can I make "last" command show long username?

I think that's a limitation in Fedora. On some other systems (Solaris I think) you can type 'last -X' to get up to 32 characters. it would require a /var/log/wtmpx log to be present, but in fedora you only have /var/log/wtmp.

There are some other distributions that use wtmpx, eg the rpm based PLD distro (http://www.pld-linux.org/) has a sysvinit rpm which supports this, http://rpm.pbone.net/index.php3/stat/4/idpl/658487/com/SysVinit-2.84-4.i386.rpm.html.

But you may cause all sorts of problems if you try to force this into fedora.
So I think you're stuck with the 8 character limit, a bit naff I agree. :(
