how would i edit the gnome menu without alacarte or the "edit menus" command? there must be a configuration file somewhere.

i'm trying to get a program to always open with the --no-sound option when i click on it in the menu. I would assume that I can add that option. if not, it would still help to know how to edit the menus manually; alacarte isnt working properly.

Hello:
I believe the desktop files are located in /usr/share/applications
cd /usr/share/applications
and
ls
to see the actual name and then you can use whichever editor that you like.

You find common menus in /etc/xgd/menus/

Legacy menus can be in /etc/X11/applnk or /usr/share/gnome/apps

'New' location is /usr/share/applications

.menu files define menu structure, .directory files mainly define languages for each menu entry and .desktop files are individual menu entries

you can find all by using locate (e.g. `locate .menu`) that'll find you all files with .menu in their name

sry for dupe answer to Seve's he was just quicker typer :) Also, I'm not expert with this stuff but I'm sure someone here can help you out how to actually modify those files
