Thanks mhelios...

One further question is: Can I recover the mechine if both GRUB password and root password are lost? (of course I don't want to re-install it...)
Thanks and any suggestion is appreciated.

monkey,

To recover from a lost GRUB and root password (yikes!) you would need to boot your system from the Fedora installation CD 1 and enter "linux rescue" at the prompt. You will eventually be taken to a minimal shell where you can reset the root password. Then once you've made it back to your regular desktop, you can perform the process outlined in the tutorial I posted above to reset a new GRUB password.

I would like to know if the following line in grub.conf is correct:

password md5_encrypted_pw

I have tried and I found that I can only use plaintext as the password. If I copied the phase from `md5crypt` into it. It can't works -> It will show an error message even I have typed the correct password. Could anyone tell me what is happening? Thanks.

Sorry for not being more detailed. The correct password line should be:

password --md5 md5_encrypted_pw
