the size of icons, width of borders/frames on windows and the default text size in the terminal in what I assume is the default "Fedora theme" - it's all way too big and takes up valuable screen space. How do I make everthing tinier, preferably without having to download user XYZ's custom LTOR theme? I looked around some of the system settings but there was no "small" option.

If this is Gnome open Nautilus, from the 'Edit' menu select Preferences and change the default zoom level on the first page under Icon View Defaults.
