I have never used KDE on my laptop, always Gnome.
Today I did a complete update of my FC5, and after the reboot, KDE was loaded, and I can't seem to get it to load Gnome instead.

I don't have the 'Gnome' option in 'Sessions' in the login screen.
The /etc/sysconfig/deskop file was empty, so I added DESKTOP="GNOME" and DISPLAYMANAGER="GNOME". But it didn't help.

How can I determine if this is due to misconfiguation or software error?

uname -r returns: 2.6.18-1.2257.fc5
/usr/share/gnome-about/gnome-version.xml says that my gnome version is 2.14.3 2006-08-02

Any ideas?

Okay.. Before the update, I removed gstreamer because it complained about unresolved dependencies... But apparently I removed at bit too much. I am trying to install it again, but I get this:
Package gstreamer-plugins-good-0.10.5-0.gst.1.5.i386.rpm is not signed

What can I do about that?

yum install gnome-session And maybe yum groupupdate "GNOME Desktop Environment"

I solved the 'not signed' error by setting gpgcheck=0 in the gstreamer repo files.
Then I opened "Add/remove software", put a checkmark in "GNOME Desktop Environment" and clicked 'Apply'
It installed some gnome packages and gstreamer... and voila, now everything is back to normal.
