View Full Version : Fedora theme with blue scroll bar?

I saw that the latest version of Fedora doesn't have the nice theme with the blue scroll bar (it's beige now). Here's the nice theme I'm talking about:

http://www.tomscoffeehouse.com/images/blog_pics/fedora_screenshot.gif (http://linux.softpedia.com/screenshots//Fedora-Core_3.jpg)

I'd like to know if it's easy to recover this theme. How can I install it? Does it have a specific name?

Thanks! :)

Did you try windows decorations. I am running KDE and I have the very same thing you are showing, I just selected it from there.

Are you sure? I thought it was only a Gnome theme...

So just wander over to:

http://gnome-look.org/

and find a theme you like. I find a lot of themes too "white" for my eyes so took one I liked and changed the background colour to something more steel blue and changed the scrollbar colour too.

I'm using the Murrine engine (now in Extras) and you also need to download the Murrine Configurator from the author's site. It's a simple install and gives you a menu entry under System > Preferences > More Preferences. It allows you to customise the Murrine theme you are using.

Most themes are just an xml or gtkrc file, easily edited with Gedit or your favourite text editor. Look through and you can usually find what to change to get the colours you want to build your own custom theme.

Thanks, the only problem is the scrollbar that I can't have to be blue :(

What version of Fedora are you using? Are you talking about Clearlooks? I have a version with blue scrollbars but the BG colour I made steel-blue. If you don't like the beige scrollbars in the new Clearlooks then make them blue. I think this is the section you need to change, make a backup of the original gtkrc file and play with the colour:

style "clearlooks-scrollbar" = "clearlooks-default"
{
fg[NORMAL] = "#43506C"
fg[PRELIGHT] = "#6079af"
fg[ACTIVE] = "#f5f6f6"
bg[NORMAL] = "#D9DEE2"
bg[PRELIGHT] = "#E3E8EC"
}

That screenshot is definitely Gnome surely!? Doesn't look like KDE to me at all!

I think the wording "Welcome to the Gnome Desktop" is a bit of a giveaway :-)

I seem to remember that being the default Clearlooks theme in FC5.

If I were the OP I'd stick the word "Clearlooks" into the gnome-look.org search box and see if he finds a variation he likes.

Maybe this will help the OP:

Yes, I know. I have two clocks on my desktop, one shows local (Tokyo) time and the other the time back in Blighty! It's almost 10:00am here on Saturday :D

Ahaaa, I see where the confusion came from, I mistakenly wrote 13:00 hours! Brain still not in gear this morning! You're doing better than me even after all that vodka! (Smirnoff? or Sainsbury's?) :D

What part of the UK are you boozing in?

I figured how do make the bars blue on the Glossy theme, it looks really cool and it's really simple! Just case a custom theme with Glossy as controls, edit the ~/.themes/[CUSTOM_THEME_NAME]/gtk-2.0/gtkrc file and see this part:

engine "clearlooks"
{
scrollbar_color = "#76acde"
menubarstyle = 2 # 0 = flat, 1 = sunken, 2 = flat gradient
animation = FALSE
style = GLOSSY
}
Change it to:
engine "clearlooks"
{
scrollbar_color = "#76acde"
menubarstyle = 2 # 0 = flat, 1 = sunken, 2 = flat gradient
animation = FALSE
#style = GLOSSY
}
(You comment out the Style command)
Enjoy :D

Kludge? :D

Actually, I'm sitting here wishing I had the hardware to try Beryl. Unfortunately, it doesn't work in my ancient 32Mb ATI card, although it does on my son's.

I've read a lot of that thread but nothing's helped. It looks like a bug with the driver and that particular card from what I've read here and there. I get the same problem with LiveCDs that have Beryl (Vector Linux for one) It's something I have to live with until I can afford to upgrade.

Thanks for you help guys. I tried to install Murrine from here: http://cimi.netsons.org/pages/murrine/download.php but I seem to have an old version of GTK:

checking pkg-config is at least version 0.9.0... yes
checking for GTK... configure: error: GTK+-2.8 is required to compile murrine
[charles@vaio murrine-0.10]$

But:

91 packages excluded due to repository protections
Installed Packages
gtk2.i386 2.10.4-16.fc6 installed
gtk2.i386 2.10.4-4.fc6 installed
[root@vaio ~]#

Any idea?
