can you suggest me some good resource as a starting point for computer graphics and simulation?

As for 3D modeling try Blender. 2D Gimp. There's also tools to process data if that's what you want. What kind of simulation were you thinking about?

Use yum to search for software to install.

Maya although expensive the learning version is free. Maya is what most if not all professional game designers use today. You can do 3d scenes, animation or modelling with it. You can also do 2d scenes.
Oh sorry I just learned that the free version isnt available for Linux , although the 2,000$ and 7,000$ versions are. LOL It used to cost like 800$ I cant recommend it for 2,000$. However its not that hard to find it significantly cheaper, like 100% if you know where to look.
