i was told that i should use totem-xine so that i can play DvDs in fedora core 5. SO i installed it from the repos while uninstalling totem. However, when i try to play a dvd it still says i need plugins. Also, it cant play Mp3's. DO i need to download sum plugins to get DvD and Mp3s to work on my box?

I really don't believe it, I already gave you the link to Stanton Finley's FC5 guide in another thread you started about DVD. Didn't you even bother to read it? Everything you need to know is there. The link I gave you above is for FC6, you should follow Stanton's guide for setting up the repos not mine, but the multimedia codecs, Java, etc, in my updated guide are newer than the ones in Stanton's. I'm out of this thread, I won't help people who won't help themselves by reading what they been advised to read and using a bit of brain-power!

I've never gotten totem-xine to work. Use xine instead.

Is xine capable of playing just Mp3's aswell?

Yea, Xine can play mp3s. However, you can't store playlists with xine.
I recommend using xmms as your audio player.

yum install xmms xmms-mp3 xmms-wma

this will install xmms and support for mp3 and wma music formats. You don't have to include xmms-wma if you don't have any wmas.
