I am new to Fedora and I was wondering how to do this. I want to be in gnome and switch to a tty then switch back to gnome with out gnome logging out and losing all of my open apps.

Thanks in advance.

Hit alt-ctrl-F1 to tty1. Then back to the X side of tty1 which will be tty7 for fedora is alt-ctrl-F7.

That's what I have been doing, but when I got back to tty7, gnome has been logged out and all of my apps are closed.

Never had that happen. I seldom use Gnome so I started it up and switched to F1 and back to gnome and it was the way I left it. Did a quick google search might not much help in my search.

Any possibility that something you did in tty cause you to get logged out of gnome?

No, it happens if I just go to tty1 do nothing and then go back to tty7.

I don't use F1-F7 often, but I have to agree with Brian1 in that it is strange. Never happened to me either.
(I use KDE but I doubt that has anything to do with it).
