could I run desktop effects on nvidia TNT2 64 w/ 16mb
?? or beryl??

I've got one too but I never tried too hard to get it working with compiz. I was running a second monitor off of the TNT2 and I couldn't get the desktop effects to work with both monitors.

After you install the nvidia-legacy drivers for the card you might have a shot at getting beryl to work. Whenever I tried to load desktop effects, my windows borders would disappear.

I'll try an XGL live CD with the card and I'll let you know what happens.

cool thanks i do have the fedora 6 live cd, but i don't know how to run xgl...

Well, I was using a live CD of Gentoo with XGL, not FC6.
It didn't work because the legacy drivers weren't included on the live CD. Your best chance is to install the kmod-nvidia-legacy driver and use beryl.
