AARGH - had Beryl working with Aigxl / compiz (Nvidia card, twinview dual screen setup)

But suddently it disappeared!!!! I was tweaking some kernel boot settings (trying to put a noprobe on my cdrom - totally unrelated to graphics stuff), it just VANISHED next time I booted up.

I have reverted the kernel line I changed but no dice. I even removed and reinstalled via yum.

Whats even more annoying is that beryl-manager WILL START and I get the ruby icon but it doesn't actually do anything. I don't get a splash screen.

What's even weirder is that "desktop effects" looks turned ON (button is pressed down) and all the 3D effects lines are present in Xorg.conf!!! If I change any advanced options (which noramlly restarts beryl), my windows flash, then nothing. CHanging windows managers in beryl also does nothing.

Also when I turn desktop effects on and off, I lose all titlebars. I get standard AIGXL effects, but no beryl effects - its like it doesn't exist.

THis is REALLY ANNOYING as I had it all running fine before, and I didn't change anything remotely related to graphics.

No errors in xorg or message log files.

DEsperate for some tips!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! thanks in advance
