Hi all

I run this command below

ps aux | grep mysqld

root 26825 0.0 0.6 4448 1260 pts/1 S 13:53 0:00 /bin/sh /usr/bin/mysqld_safe --defaults-file=/etc/my.cnf --pid-file=/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.pid --log-error=/var/log/mysqld.log
mysql 26861 0.0 9.7 136672 18564 pts/1 Sl 13:53 0:00 /usr/libexec/mysqld --defaults-file=/etc/my.cnf --basedir=/usr --datadir=/var/lib/mysql --user=mysql --pid-file=/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.pid --skip-external-locking --socket=/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock

I keep have to run kill to kill mysqld_safe

why would both run at the same time every I restart mysqld

I'm running mysql version 5.0 on Fedora 5.0

They aren't the same thing, one is a wrapper for the other. mysqld_safe is a script that runs mysqld.
scripts to start the MySQL daemon and restart it if it dies unexpectedly
mysqld is a binary executable.
