Gnome Menu layout in Fedora 6 is a great utility, yet it is very slow and inefficient when making broad menu customizations. How do you edit the menu layout through a text editor? Where is the the configuration file for the menu?

It would be helpful to select multiple items and drop them into a new menu. Copying and delete group of menu times would be good as well.

Would that be the alacarte tool?

The entries come from .desktop files, mostly in /usr/share/applications/. The file spec is available online, and the existing entires make good examples.
