View Full Version : How to install FireFox 2.0 and ChatZilla?

I tried "yum install firefox" but that only installed v1 and apparently chatzilla needs v2.

So I google searched and downloaded a .tar.gz file and unzipped it but then I did not know what to do. The readme.txt file said to go to http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/ but I could not find any help there. I tried ./configure but that did not help.

It would sure be nice if yum could install v2.

Can anyone show me the instructions for installing firefox on FC4?
Thanks,
Siegfried

Simply extract the tar-ball for example to /usr/lib/firefox and run /usr/lib/firefox/firefox

su
cd /usr/lib
tar -xzf /path/to/your/downloaded/tar/ball/firefox-2.0.0.1.tar.gz
Edit:
optional you can create a symbolic link, so you can start firefox from everywhere by entering firefox (no path)

cd /usr/bin
ln -s /usr/lib/firefox/firefox

You will need install the package compat-libstdc++-33 too.
(see http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=142303 )

I have some strange problems with firefox 2.0, see this thread:
