Hi,

I am trying to use mencoder to convert an existing file using xvid and lame. The video encoding works alright, but the audio is much noisier than the source. The following packages are installed on my computer (FC6):
lame.i386 3.97-1.fc6
mplayer.i386 1.0-0.33.rc1.fc6
mencoder.i386 1.0-0.33.rc1.fc6

I am using the following command:
"mencoder file.avi -o ~/test.avi -vf scale=480:272 -oac mp3lame -lameopts cbr:br=128:q=0 -ovc xvid -xvidencopts bitrate=800"

Anyone encountered this problem? Anyone know how to resolve this?

Never had this problem. Which format is the source audio? If you want mp3, try first demuxing the audio then encode it with lame and finally mux audio and video with mencoder.

The input audio was in mp3 format.

Anyway, I was able to encode it perfectly using transcode. No matter what I did (I tried demuxing the audio as well) it seemed that mencoder was always producing a very noisy output.
