I was sending command line mail messages, something like this:
mail -s "mail subject" email@domain.com < mytextfile.txt

I was in a hurry and accidentally specified the wrong file to the mail program, "myotherfile.tgz". Since this should have been sent as an attachment it failed to send, but now it re-tries every 2 hours and I recieve icky gibberish emails.

I can't figure out how to cancel this failed mail message since I am not an expert at the command line mail.
Help?

I think you'll have to manually remove the message from the sendmail queue, in /var/spool/mqueue.
