I have added a new hardware card to my FC6 installation. FWIW, the card is a generic BT878 video capture card.

How do I make the OS set up the necessary video devs, etc. for this?

TIA

modprobe -r bttv
modprobe bttv card=10 tuner=5
also, the sound for the tuner comes from a separate sound module, through "capture" channel.
is the comand line, "card" reffers to the card model, "tuner" refers to the silver box thingy that you put the cable in.
there are around 70 card types, and 10 or so tuner types, the exact types_t_number correlations are listed in the kernel driver documentation.
You can run the commands with different card=.. and tuner=... numbers till you get the desired results.
You can type :
dmesg
to get a hint at the autodetected values
I think the video devices are created automatically when the module gets loaded.
You also need a tv viewing application, i recomand tvtime (yum install tvtime)

Did you run kudzu after installing the card?
