Okay, now I'm extremely    .

All I want to do is:

1) set up a computer to stream some web cams to the internet - I have looked at ffmpeg, but have not been able to get it working (although I have gotten xawtv to find one cam and display it).

2) using my capture card (generic Bt8878), I want to download video from my camcorder via the S video connector (the cam has firewire, but the computer doesn't), edit it and have it available for streaming onto the internet.

This is all getting pretty involved for me - even though I am fairly technical, I haven't done much with video, especially on linux. So any help will be greatly appreciated. Also any pointers to sites with documentation on setting up and running video on linux (I've been to the v4l wiki), as well as any good books discussing this would be great.

FWIW: the box I want to use is running a (very) fresh version of FC6.

TIA
