I had a fiddle with different gstreamer/lame settings in gnome-audio-profiles-properties but I can't seem to get a good compromise between quality and file size.

What settings are other people using to get good MP3s, need a compromise between file size (they will get put on an mp3 player) and quality.

Currently using:
audio/x-raw-int,rate=44100,channels=2 ! lame name=enc mode=0 vbr-quality=4 vbr=4 ! id3mux

also tries vbr qual 2(too big) and 6 (too crap)

I can't remember what settings I used to use with grip/lame but I had lovely mp3s.

Thanks
