View Full Version : could not open default font 'fixed' after adding TTF fonts

31st October 2006, 10:41 AM
After adding about a dozen or so TTF fonts under KDE, I logged out so X could load these fonts.

However, it began cycling in and out of X. Checking the log file, the last line is:
could not open default font 'fixed'

I believe this is a result of adding in the new fonts, as the only other explanation of a full hard disk does not apply, there is 10GB on /, and /root has 40GB still available.

I had forced the removal of the fonts, all of them, and reinstalled both from DVD and from a mirrot site, but no positive results, infact fc-cache cannot even create any files.

Presently, I am reinstalling, but what aspect of adding the TTF fonts broke X, and what do I need to do to remedy it, should it happen again?
