Ok, so this is probably a stupid question. I just want to get rid of my desktop icons. Having just come back to Fedora after making the rounds with every other distro it is quite possible I am missing the obvious. I don't need them and am quite annoyed that they are there. Thanks for answering my unimportant question.

just right click on icon and select move to trash.

Right click and select move to trash is not an available option. I have tried shift+delete too, which does nothing. If I highlight all three and press delete I get the message "Cannot move items to the trash, do you want to delete them immediately?". I select delete and nothing happens. It just occurred to me that it might have something to do with selinux. I'll sleep on it and try again tomorrow.

Hi notiones

There's a better way.

First, install gtweakui from the Applications>Add/Remove Software:

From the Gnome Desktop Environment Optional packages, install - gtweakui 0.4.0.3fc6.i386

Then you should get and click menu item in System>Preferences>More Preferences>gtweakui - Nautilus.

From this dialog you can choose to not show the usual desktop icons.

Hope it helps,

Dan
