Hello---

Since Stanton Finley doesn't have an FC 6 installation notes, I need someone to walk a non-gearhead through how to install mplayer and similar such programs that will automatically retrieve the dependencies as well. Thanks for your efforts...

mplayer is not an option in add/remove software.

Many of the FC-5 notes will work well in FC-6 too. Just pay attention to the details. For instance, I notice that Java has had an updated version since the notes were written. That means you'll look for the '9' instead of the '8' download and make a modification in the 'ln -s (etc)' linkage to make it work properly. With Livna having the kmod-nvidia and ati drivers, I'd use Livna as normally 'enabled' and if you add the rpm-forge group, keep them normally 'disabled'. Of course, you just change the '1' to '0' when modifying your yum.repos.d's. Simple way is to have yumex installed and use a checkmark to enable or disable.

Eventually, we hope to see Stanton's notes updated as well as the FAQ and also the http://easylinux.info/wiki/ and http://easylinux.info/wiki/Fedora_frog Stay tuned, it's very early yet and these people aren't being compensated for their efforts to help us.

my mistake , to get mplayer you need the livna repo rpm

http://rpm.livna.org/fedora/6/x86_64/livna-release-6-1.noarch.rpm for 64 bit or 32 bit (noarch)

click and install the above link then look again

Thanks all---following along Bob's suggestion, I added repos to yum a-la Stanton Finley---only adding the freshrpms core 6th path. The rest worked fine with mplayer and xine both showing up in "multimedia" in "add/remove programs".
