Hi, I've upgraded my FC5 to FC6. But I prefer to do a fresh install. When I try to backup my data on a CD-R (using an external CD/DVD burner), I don't get it to work. I've searched this forum for solution, but I don't seem to get it right. If somebody could help me out on this?

I did tried this with several new, empty CD-R's. Always the same error....
What am I missing here?

One thought is to try growisofs instead of using cdrecord.
I don't know the syntax for external cdrecorders, but the syntax for IDE recorders has been like:
dev=ATA:2,0,0 . Are the external one's treated as real scsi?
If you run as root, that error about "cannot set priority" may go away, but I don't think this is your problem.
Are you writing a iso9660 image ? Or does the suffix "raw" on your file indicate some other format?

I cant use DVD+R/RW anymore with cdrecords in FC6, because license issue. See changelog from cderocrds*.rpm:
* Thu Aug 17 2006 Harald Hoyer <harald@redhat.com> - 9:2.01-10
- moved back to version 2.01 (last GPL version),
due to incompatible license issues

And this release can't write DVD+R media. /I never try with DVD-R, just recompile a last working version (2.01.01.0.a10-1.1, from FC5), with increased epox/

cd record version: Cdrecord-Clone 2.01
does not find my external usb dvd recorder. It will only find my internal cd-rw.
lsusb shows the external usb dvd recorder.

and cdrecord -scanbus does not work unless I specify a device: cdrecord -scanbus dev=/dev/cdwriter

and of course xcdroast does not work.

This FC variant of cdrecord has some problems. It does not appear to have been tested very thoroughly.
