This is killing me! Some of the mirrors are tortuously slow
What I did in the past with FC4 and FC5 is goto the list of mirrors for each repo lets say CORE and I would pick about 5 from the whole list that I tested to be pretty fast.
I'm trying to do the same with FC6, but yum refuses to work giving a range of errors usually saying can't access repo or something.

ex: goto
http://mirrors.fedoraproject.org/mirrorlist?repo=core-$releasever&arch=$basearch
.. so in browser i would do:
http://mirrors.fedoraproject.org/mirrorlist?repo=core-6&arch=i386
and i would pick 5 that work good for me, do: gedit /etc/yum.repos.d/fedora-core.repo
get rid of mirror list uncomment base and then put the 5 in
... it worked for FC4 and 5 but yum is giving me errors in FC6
so what would be the proper way to do this? i know there's a yum plugin to find fastest mirror, but what else can i try

Have you tried making your own mirrolist and sticking it on your local harddrive?

aight, that worked .. awesome
now i just gotta re tweak the mirrors and find out which ones are the fastest since they appear to change around
