is there a good program other than the pre built in eclipse tool to develop c++ code inside of linux? (i ask cause im taking software development in college and it always impresses teachers to be doing it from linux, and i can just never get the eclipse to work)

Vim, Anjuta, Emacs, Kate, KDevelop to name but few.

Forget IDEs and use a text editor and compiler seperately. More efficient, easier to work with, and you don't wonder where the executable is.

It depends what you want.
If you're new to programming then you probably want as much help as possible: KDevelop, Ajunta
If you 'know your programming' already (i.e. know java, C whatever) then you may find a text editor ideal.
Personally, I like XEmacs and vi(m), but that's not for everyone and I;ve been doing this for a decade. CDT in Eclipse is good (a little perseverence goes a long way). KDevelop is better (IMO) for a C++ from scratch.

Hope that helps a bit,
Dave
