1. When you download updates with yum, where are they stored before they're installed?
2. Are the update files deleted from above location after they're installed?
2,5. If there are 5 updates, is #1 installed after #1 is downloaded, or are #'s 1-5 installed after #5 is downloaded?

I'm trying to copy the update files to CD. I don't want to have to download 630Mb again if I have to reinstall Fedora.

Please don't do this. Your text is almost unreadable.

Typically in /var/cache/yum

2. Are the update files deleted from above location after they're installed?

Not unless you tell yum to clean up.

All dependent packages must be downloaded before the dependencies are met...

In FC5, the default behavior of yum is to remove packages it downloaded after installation them. Its configurable though.

http://fedora.redhat.com/docs/release-notes/fc5/#id2943647

All packages are downloaded first and then installed simultaneously since its much faster than downloading, calculating dependencies and installing them for every package.

Thanks, both of you.
