I have fc5 installed and updated with 82801FB intel sound card (snd-intel8x0). I don't hear any sound from laptop speakers but using front connection to headphones I can here sounds but pcm is 100% and so is master but still sound is veryvery weak. so How can I get more volume? external amplifier is on...

did you increase the "headphones" slider too?...
I find that both the "PCM" and "headphones" settings have an effect on each other.

alsamixer or kmix (or whatever gnome uses for it's mixer?).Also make sure all switches in mixers are actually ON.

what kernel are you using?

I had incredibly faint volume with kernel 2.6.16 using a similar card, and the ALSA project site is full of bug reports about it.... The problem didn't exist with 2.6.15 and was fixed again in 2.6.17 (in my case).....

I believe the affected drivers were snd-intel8x0 and hda-intel on some chipsets. If you're not using kernel version 2.6.16 this probably isn't the issue though.
