i have a fresh install of FC5 with thunderbird 1.5.0.5.
i have to problems one critical, the other cosmetic:

i can read mail fine but sending just hangs with "sending message..."
evolution can send fine to the same SMTP server (on SSL).
also the progress bar that's filled in with blue gets drawn all the
way across the window, outside the widget boundaries....

any advice?

it would appear that thunderbird-1.5.0.5-1.1.fc5 that i got from yum is bad. the fix:

1) download the latest tarball from getthunderbird.com
2) yum install compat-libstdc++-33
3) replace /usr/bin/thunderbird

it seems a similar problem afflicts the recent firefox release:

thanks for help.
Yes there is problem in repository. this version does not work.
I downloaded from mozilla website and installed works fine.
please guys fix the http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pub/fedora/linux/core/updates/5/x86_64/thunderbird-1.5.0.5-1.1.fc5.x86_64.rpm
at least in 12.september 2006 there still was problem.

by the way, I replaced /usr/bin/thunderbird file with thunderbird from official .tar file, but then thunderbird did not start at all.

here is newer version of thunderbird
