If it is an external ADSL modem it is as simple at connecting the phone line to the modem and then the patch cord from the modem to the computer.

Here is a diagram (http://www.labridge.com/site/pages/configure/my/DSL/dslhookup/images/wirediagram2.gif).

It is an ADSL external modem. the modem is connected through a USB cable. it is already connected.

Actually there are 2 operating systems in my PC. windows XP pro and FC4.

the modem is being used even before i installed FC4.

After installation of FC4 i couldn't figure out a way for installing this modem so that i can get connected to the net. i thought it would get detected automatically as there should be inbuilt drivers.

I would like to use FC4 instead of windows. But my experience with linux is almost an year old. at times i find it difficult to use it.

physical connection between modem and the PC is perfect. it is working for windows where we just have to load the drivers for the modem.
