Hi,

I hope someone can quickly point me to a solution to this problem. After doing a new FC5 install, and doing a yum update (including a new kernel), I have the following problem.

When logged in as a normal user it appears that there is a problem with permissions somewhere. Gnome seems unable to access or display desktop icons. e.g., If I "Create Launcher" on the desktop, and click the icon button, no icons are displayed from /usr/share/pixmaps, etc. If it is permissions it is not in /usr/share since I can navigate there manually and display all the png files. Maybe it is a permission problem with whatever the viewer is that gnome uses?

Similarly, desktop icons corresponding to apps that I'd installed before the yum update do not appear properly on the desktop.

When logged in as root, everything is fine.

Thanks,
Terry

I found that the problem was that permissions in /usr/share/mime had been changed to exclude group/other read access.
