i'm running apache and pure-ftpd as my httpd and ftp servers (respectively), but the download speeds vary greatly:
if i go to ftp://(myip)[pure-ftpd] from another computer on my network then i get amazing speeds (up to 3000kb/s for a download), yet if i download the same ftp file via http://(myip)[httpd] from the same computer, i get speeds averaging around 10kb/s for a download.

basically:
ftp://(myip)/file.ext = ~3000kb/s
httpd link to ftp://(myip)/file.ext = ~10kb/s

what's the deal?
is there some sort of bandwidth seting i'm missing in httpd.conf or is ftp just that much better than http?

Have a look at your error log in /var/log/httpd/error_log

ftp is not that much faster than http, all things being equal.
