I have a fresh new installation of FC5. Each time firefox visits a webpage that has flash, it prompts me to install the missing Flash plugin. The problem is, firefox repeatly reports the flash plugin is missing even if I install it before.

The flash plugin could be in one of two places: /home/your user/.mozilla/plugins, or /usr/lib/firefox-version (replace version with yours)/plugins.

On my system the file name is libflashplayer.so in my home dir, but in /usr/lib, libflashplayer.so is a symlink pointing to /usr/lib/flash-plugin/flashplayer.xpt. Not sure which one is actually being used, but check to see what you have.

I think that the fastest way to install flash for FireFox is using yum, you can follow this instructions:

http://www.fedorafaq.org/#flash

Good luck !

I have similar problem. I tried to install it both manually and form flash repository and no luck. I have the plugin both in ~/.mozilla/plugins and /usr/share/lib/firefox-1.5.0.4/plugins and it doesn't work in my firefox 1.5.0.4. but what is strange is that it works in my firefox 2.0b1 (it uses only the one in my home) and in Galeon (it also uses ~/.mozilla/plugins?). It seems the flash-plugin is somehow incompatible with firefox 1.5.0.4 or I have something wrongly set??

$cd ~/.mozilla/plugins
$ ls -l
-rw-r--r-- 1 leo users 856 May 20 2004 flashplayer.xpt
-rwxr-xr-x 1 leo users 2096844 May 20 2004 libflashplayer.so
$ cd /usr/lib/firefox-1.5.0.1/plugins
$ ls -l
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 18472 Mar 13 23:29 libnullplugin.so
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 10756 Mar 13 23:29 libunixprintplugin.so

Mr. Leonard,

I can tell you that you want to use the FedoraFAQ or SMFinley's tutorial for installing flash, and NOT the FF download. The Firefox version is very problematic for certain flash files. I ended up having to remove it and I followed Stanton Finley's tutorial, and have been trouble free ever since!

It can be found here (http://stanton-finley.net/fedora_core_5_installation_notes.html#Flash).

Hope this helps,

Also, since all new users are destined to repeat the sins of their predecessors, I can share with you my thread from when I screwed up my flash install, and had to get rid of the FF version:

My debacle (http://forums.fedoraforum.org/forum/showthread.php?t=111124) :) This should get you fixed up in a hurry.

thanks,
