Hello

FC5 was running smoothly on my machine but all of a sudden my mouse stop doing any action on clicks in only file browser window.

it was working in other windows like shell window and notepad.

I restarted it abnormally.

I logged back in both as a root and another user but all I get is two small windows, the shell window and firefox browser showing me FC5 release notes and an analog xclock on top right corner and the rest of screen is blank.

on pressing left mouse click in an emtpy area, it shows me a pop menu TWM, when I exit using this menu, it takes me back to the login screen.

I have tried different sessions on the login screen but same result.

I have no idea what it is.

Can someone tell me how i can restore my desktop back.

Regards

I think it's worth trying the install media cd/dvd/whatever you used to install with and trying rescue mode. Also check out what 'dmesg' outputs, and/or post that here.

back up your ~/.gconf and ~/.gocnfd, then delete them. Also delte /tmp/gcond-<your username> directory. Then log back in. That should give you a clean desktop. You will unfortunately lose any customizations you might have done to the panels, preferences etc.
