Dear all,

My Fedora 4 harddisk a damage, and I need take the important data from this harddisk. The system is default using LVM as VolGroup00

I move this harddisk to another computer, this computer is also install FC4 and using LVM VolGroup00

I try to mount the damage harddisk(hdc2) into the system using
mount /dev/hdc2 /mnt/mountpoint

It's told me error as "You must specify the filesystem type"

How to mount the LVM for hdc2?

Thanks

If you do a search on lvm you will find several threads about this topic.

But basically you need to rename the old Volume group to some other name besides VolGroup00
To use lvm on the second (bad ) do not mount it but activate it.
su -
#root
lvm --help
vgchange --help
vgrename --help

vgchange -a y VolumeGroup00
then rename it
vgrename VolGroup00 VolGroup11

now mount it under your /home/username

mkdir /home/usename/oldstuff
mount /dev/mapper/VolGroup11-LogVoll01 /home/username/oldstuff

now go there and copy off data
cd /home/username/oldstuff/home/username
(something like this)
cp /home/username/oldstuff/home/username/mydir/*.* -t /home/username/newdir
