Is there a way to make FC5 skip the FSCK disk checking step at boot time? I have a harddrive that has errors on it that I mount automatically by the volume name in the fstab file. However, my computer is locking up when trying to check for errors on the drive. I tried removing the harddrive, but when I booted it dropped me to the recovery prompt and said that the volume could not be found for FSCK checking.

How do I skip that step so I can boot and try some other techniques to fix the drive?

TIA for any help.

Jesse

$ man fsck (paragraphs under the -A option)

When it drops me to the recovery prompt, the file system is read only however, so I can't edit the fstab file. I've tried hitting "I" when it says to do interactive startup, but that does nothing. Is there another way other than editing the fstab file? If not, I'll look for some boot disk or something.

Boot your FC5 RescueCD then mount your HD.

Yup, thanks. I was able to remove the line from the fstab file. I can boot my computer now. Now I just have to figure out what is wrong with the HDD...
