What would I use as the command if I want to convert an avi to an mpeg of the same quality in ffmpeg? If I want to burn the mpeg into a vcd do I need vcdimager along with k3b (I have k3b)?

To encode to mpeg.

ffmpeg -i foo.avi -target pal-vcd foo.mpg

Or for ntsc

ffmpeg -i foo.avi -target vcd foo.mpg

Then to create a VCD disk you use vcdimager.

two more questions, whats the difference between pal and ntsc? and do i need k3b at all to burn a vcd?

1, If you live in europe/australia etc then the tv standard is PAL (25fps), if you live in usa/japan then the standard is NTSC (~30fps).

So you would encode to whatever standard is suitable for your tv/dvd.

2, vcdimager will spit out two files videocd.cue & videocd.bin you use cdrdao to burn them to disk.

Sorry but I cant figure out how to use vcdimager

30th May 2006, 11:35 PM

vcdimager -t vcd2 foo.mpg foo2.mpg

This will take a while but you will end up with 2 files videocd.cue videocd.bin.

I do not know if k3b can burn bin/cue files as I do not use k3b.

I use cdrdao
