View Full Version : Can not connect to the internet

I just installed FC5 on my dual boot laptop but I can't connect to the internet. I connect wirelessly to my router from my laptop. I have winXP on my laptop also and it works fine.

My /etc/resolv.conf file is empty and my proxy configuration is Direct internet connection and I'm using DHCP.

Also when I installed FC5, I did not install the Dial up Networking package (Not sure if it has anything to do it)

Can you show me how to fix this please? I'm new to linux so step by step instructions are greatly appreciated.

- Ensure the settings that work for XP ie dns server also apply to FC5. If you need to enter passwords/keys do so. Can you ping the router? ie ping or its address?

When I do ping, I got back

connect: Network is unreachable

Just had this the other day.
1. you state that the laptop connects to the wireless router.
Therefore if you know the IP address of teh router, you can log on to it. If you can do this, note down from teh network settings the DNS addresses.
2. Now; System->administration-> Network and select your wireless card, add DNS entries.

That got me working.

Good luck.
