View Full Version : import outlook .pst files into Evolution

29th May 2006, 04:01 AM

I have a large amount of emails in my work email (Exchange servers, Outlook 2000 client) which I would like to transfer to my linux box @ home (Evolution).

Question: is there an easy way of importing/exporting them between the two clients? e.g. if I archive them in Outlook as .pst files, can Evo handle the importing? Would it work with another format e.g. csv?

I am talking about manually transferring the email files over, I can't connect with an exchange client as I don't have extranet access to the work mail server via linux (locked down corporate IT setup DOH)

Any hints much appreciated.

Apparently the best way is still through Thunderbird (http://www.postneo.com/2005/02/26/thunderbird-shortcomings-outlook-import-support) or something crazy like that via mbox format.

The easiest way is to install Mozilla Mail on the windows box, import your outlook pab and mail folders into Mozilla Mail, then transfer the profile to evolution.

The release notes for GNOME 2.2.6 state that the included version of Evolution will support importing of PST files: http://library.gnome.org/misc/release-notes/2.26/#rnusers.evolution. DesktopLinux.com mentioned this as well:

Thanks all for your replies.

I've since given up for linux desktop for now (not linux's fault, hardware manufacturers closed drivers eetc. etc. etc.) but good to know anyway.

If Dell/Ericsson released the specs for their 3G WWAN card in the DEll Mini 9 I would be rockin' a linux netbook but alas hackintosh is the better solution, what since I can actually get the WWAN to work properly lol
