Last week I wrote a cron script, dropped it into the root crontab and noticed it didn't pickup.
The script ran as another user so instead of spending time on it I just dropped it into that users crontab and it worked just fine.

Now I need a script to run as root and alas, the root crontab is still not picking up... Is this a "feature" on Fedora Core5? How do I enable root's crontab?

crontab entry in question is:
20 0 * * * /bin/ls /data/syslog-ng/*/`date +%Y/%m/*/*` | /bin/grep -v `/bin/date +%Y/%m/%d/*` | /usr/bin/xargs /bin/gzip > /dev/null 2>&1

And it seems to run fine from the command line... TIA

Nevermind, looks like "crontab -e" is useless for root, edit /etc/crontab and it seems to be picking up now...
