In FC4 there was a gstreamer plugin in the repos that would let rhythmbox handle m4a. Now its gone! Where did it go?

open a terminal and:

su -
yum install gstreamer-plugins-extra-audio (livna or freshrpms repo).

after that, i think you'll need to type: gst-register-0.8.

I may have been unclear. The plugins no longer seem to be present in FC5, they are still fine for FC4.

FC5 does have them for gstreamer08 legacy support. This is little help to rhythmbox.

I just installed a few new plugins from freshrpms (I only had livna, forgot about fresh). I'll see if its fixed.

EDIT: Nope

how about trying this package:

rpm -ql gstreamer-plugins-ugly-0.10.3-1.fc5.rf

Got that one. It has the mp3 support, but no m4a

Here might be a thought, like in most things during compilation there is a configure line passed to compiler, this can be found in spec file of a SRPM.

what I usaully do is go into source directory extract the tarball, drop into that directory do a ./configure --help see what options are available.

might be able to do a --with-m4a or --enable- save the spec and rebuild the rpm done this for several things such as ffmpeg(support AMR) this one was little trickier had to prepare the tree first with proper source then re-tarball it modify spec and then build, kdemultimedia mpeg support(so don't need the extra's rpm)

So currently GStreamer 0.10 doesn't support m4a?

if it does I can't find the package to make it work.
