I'm trying to get vncserver to work on my fc5 server. First of all a friend told me to start it buy
service vncserver start but i get
[root@localhost lyle]# service vncserver start bash: service: command not found And so i do vncserver and it tells me
New 'localhost.localdomain:1 (lyle)' desktop is localhost.localdomain:1

Creating default startup script /root/.vnc/xstartup
Starting applications specified in /root/.vnc/xstartup
Log file is /root/.vnc/localhost.localdomain:1.log

So from another machine i do 192.168.10.2:1 and it won't connect. I'm not to sure whats going on here.

When you weht to root did you do ' su ' or su - '. If you did ' su ' then it will still use the previous users enviroment variables. The command service is in /sbin which not part of a standard users paths. If you do ' su - ' then it should work fine like the way you tried. or as you were you need to specify the loaction as ' /sbin/service vncserver start '.

Now as far as not connecting. Is there a firewall or selinux enabled. If so you need to disable the firewall and or selinux. Or open the need ports to gain access. Port 5901 for vncserver and port 5801 for the java since using interface 1. If you use desktop interface display :2 then you would open port 5902.

What OS is the other machine?
