I've been trying to get Realplayer working in FC5, and I've managed to do it after arguing with my configuration, but it's a pain in the bum to do it that way. Does anyone know if there are any alternatives that can play Realplayer videos - preferably something that I can get in a repository to save all of this fiddling? Or are there any plugins that work with Helix or Totem?

I think mplayer works fine with most of the formats. VLC is also very fine.

I have mplayer configured as in Stanton Finley guide (http://stanton-finley.net/fedora_core_5_installation_notes.html), and it plays RM files all right

Isn't HelixPlayer based on RealPlayer? If so, Fedora has it preinstalled (depending on the packages you chose during installtion).

What comes up if you start it from a terminal?
And, was your YUM config as recommended in the guide?

yum I reinstalled i386 from x86_64 as it would not play wmv9 files. did the guide step by step for everything. I just get it as if its not installed

I don't other media players are able to play realplayer format (rm) other than realplayer itself. This is sad because i am look for alternatives too.
