When I burn a CD with e.g. 400 files, each of size approx. 1MB, at the end about 4 files are corrupted. When I do a "verify" after burning, these files are not correct. Also the md5sum of these files is not correct. It seems to be a problem of Fedora/Redhat and not of the hardware. On the same computer, I had once RedHat 7.3 installed, and there was the same problem. Then I switched to Suse 9.1, everything worked perfect. Now I installed FC4, and now I have again the same problem. It is definitely not a burning speed problem, because the number of corrupted files does not change when the speed is reduced. Also, the buffer was never empty when burning. Also, burning under root does not improve. Burn-free is enabled.

Some technical details:
Kernel version is 2.6.16-1.2069_FC4
Cdrecord-Clone 2.01-dvd
The burner is PLEXTOR CD-R PX-W2410A 1.04

Can somebody help me?

Now I updated to the kernel 2.6.16-1.2069_FC4, and I am using cdrecord-2.01.1-9.0.FC4.1. However, the situation has not changed: for a CD of approx. 500 MB size, about 4 bits (or bytes) are wrong after burning.

In case the burner is mounted on /dev/hdc, the command

hdparm -d 0 /dev/hdc

solves the problem. It disables DMA on the burner.
