I have this machine working with US keyboard and NVidia Geforce graphics, US keyboard.

Noob error, pluggin into the wrong video port caused a lot of problems.

Also try doing a text based install or video=ofonly

There doesnt seem to be an alternative in the boot menu
for doing a text-based install.

Is there?
If so how and when do I access that option?

i believe (I don't have the time to try this) but at the boot prompt type "linux text" or it might be "install text".

You should also be able to type help at the boot prompt.

the video=ofonly can be appended as the text.

Kernel docs have some of this information

Nope - it does NOT work.

Installation hangs at the exact same place in both GUI-mode & text-mode.
(after chosing keyboard-language-layout)

Except in GUI-mode when I choose -
first: Us-english as installation language
second: Us keyboard layout

Then anaconda/yum tries to start the xserver that crashes.
The systen shuts down rather gracefully inviting me to safely reboot or shut down.

I managed to install FC-5 today in text-mode install.
( i.e. I did not try the gui-install - after successful text install )

Solution - to remove my external MOTU Firewire 828 soundcard and Motu Time Piece AV-USB midi-interface
and all external USB-hubs etc. only having my mouse & keyboard connected during install.
