Hello all i just got a linux mag with 5 disks on it
I have just installed the disks which was FEDORA CORE 5 LINUX

however i cannot change the display mode above 800x600 and if i select a monitor i cannot click ok
does this mean that my drivers is not installed for my video card?

my machine is a 2600+AMD, 512ram, geforce FX 5700 256MB
how can i find out the version on this linux?
i downloaded a driver from nvidia but it came up with cannot install file cannot find encodeing or some thing??

please help i dont want to go back to windows it makes my system unstable

To properly set up Nvidia for 3D, as well as a ton of other things, there's a couple of good references:

As far as the display goes, try opening a terminal, signing in as 'su -' and then typing "system-config-display" . That should allow you to check your card to make sure it's listed properly and to change resolution. I found out that my monitor was listed as a CRT when it's an LCD. If that's not successful, you can also modify settings with "gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf" and add the resolutions you want in the lines that contain the lower settings. Make sure your horiz. and vert. refresh rates match your monitor's specs to avoid serious problems.
