Hello,

I have just recently installed Fedora 5 on both my laptop and desktop machines and just ran across a post regarding Fedora Helper script which loads up a number of as they call them "forbidden" items.

I ran the two commands on the web site for the script and I can see the executable in my home folder, but when I try to run, open or anything absolutely nothing happens.

The two commands the web site tells a person to run are:

$ wget http://brandonhutchinson.com/fedora-helper-fc5
$ chmod u+x fedora-helper-fc5

After that I assumed I should right click on the downloaded file and click run, but that does not bring up the screen to make selections of items to install etc.

Very new to all this and feel a bit silly, but what am I doing wrong here?

thank you

How about you try it with a terminal (http://www.fedorafaq.org/basics/#terminal) and see what happens. Post any output.

Works for me, from a terminal as root. Open a terminal and cd to where you have the file.
Type su and hit enter. Type root password and hit enter. Type ./fedora-helper-fc5

Just to let you know, I have not "run the program" as I needed none of the stuff that was listed in there, so I can't confirm
how good the program might be. I just ran the script and the program launched succesfully so I can verify that the script
does work.
Hope it works out for you.
