hi,
I got UT2004 latest version running with "setarch i686 ut2004" to avoid the missing extension error. Unfortunately the game crashes after serveral minutes turning screen black ( "no signal" ) and looping sound.
I also had similiar crashes running 3d-games on WinXP but only very rare and after a few hours of gameplay. I considered this to be a power problem since the crashes happened after setting up a second hard disk.
By now I have installed FC5 on the primary disk ( no WinXP anymore). I removed the second disk since I thought it was some power issue but the problem remains. My Environment now:
Fedora Core 5 SMP (2.6.16-1.2096_FC5smp) ATI fglrx from rpm.livna.org
P4 HT 3Ghz
Ati Radeon 9800 Pro

Do you think it's a soft- or hardware related problem?
Anyone any idea what I could try next?

Hello:
Don't have an ATI card but what does your /home/username/.ut2004/System/UT2004.log provide any clues?

nope, nothing. It just says that ut is "browsing" the map which should mean it has loaded it. After that nothing is written in there. /var/log/messages is also empty (as exspected)

Could be a power [as you suspect] or some kind of hardware problem ... considering your XP experience as well?

I also begin believing in that though the XP crashes only happened after installing the second disk. I'll check out a more capable power supply or buy another PC. I hate hardware problems cause you cannot figure out what it is without having replaced every single component. Yet thanks for your help.

hmm, I have just installed doom III and it runs stable. Consequently my ut2004-Problem should not be related to my power...
