I have 'yum updated' my FC5 laptop. Before doing so, I made sure that keepcache=1 was set in /etc/yum.conf. Now all the updated RPMs are in /var/cache/yum directory. The downloads were about 450MB.

Now I want to update my Desktop system. Since my ISP restricts me to 1GB of traffic a month, I do not have the option of running 'yum update' on my desktop system since that would require another 450MB of downloads.

How do I tell my desktop system to update itself, but using the downloads from the laptop system without downloading them again from the internet?

The easiest way is just to copy the cache across :-

rsync -a -e ssh machine_with_cache:/var/cache/yum/ /var/cache/yum/

...Then do a normal "yum update"
