View Full Version : New Fedora 2.6.something-2107 kernel

4th May 2006, 08:07 PM

I just installed the 2107 kernel that came out yesterday or the day before. I also got the corresponding kmod-nvidia kernel module from livna. Both are installed.

When I boot using the old kernel, the previous one, er... 2069 or something, and the corresponding livna nvidia display module, everything works fine, but...

When I boot using the new kernel and the new corresponding livna module, the kernel boots, then the x server starts, ie, the screen changes to a different black and the X mouse pointer appears, and then... Nothing. It just hangs. I have rebooted and rebooted and it always hangs at that point.

When I reboot using the old kernel, all works fine.

Could it be because I have kmod-nvidia installed for each kernel? Could it be a selinux problem? There was a selinux update a few days ago that caused a whole lot of relabelling a few days ago, prior to the kernel update.

Any ideas?

getting the same problem with a compiled NVIDIA driver, not just livna. It works if I "Ctrl-Alt-Backspace" when it hangs. but when X comes up some things no longer work (like FreeCiv which refuses to open the windows to start a game).

Seems to the be something about the new kernel. Reverting to 2096 fixes the problem.

And since I've already decided ('cause I can) to leave only one thread open on this problem: http://forums.fedoraforum.org/forum/showthread.php?t=107847 I'll close this one so everyone can keep the problems and solutions together in one place.
